Proud moment as daughter copes with mum's illness to pick up 11A*s
Tadcaster Grammar School student Madeleine McLure found out that she had achieved 11A*s at GCSE today.
The achievement is made all the more impressive as her mother Clare had been diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year.
Dr Clare McLure was diagnosed in February.

Hide AdShe had surgery and has been undergoing chemotherapy in recent months while Madeleine completed her school year and sat her GCSE exams.
Despite this Madeleine has been able to achieve amazing results.
Her A* grades included French, German, maths, English Literature and Language, history, physics, chemistry, biology, food technology and RE.
She collected her results with her mother at Tadcaster Grammar this morning.

Hide Ad“It’s been quite a year” Dr McLure said as Madeleine opened here results to discover she had achieved so many top grades.
Her mother told The Yorkshire Post: “I am so proud of her because it has been difficult for our children too.
“She has coped so well. She is very calm - unlike me!.
“It was wonderful going down to get the results. I was very emotional.”
Madeleine said: “I was very very surprised with my results.
“I wasn’t expecting 11A*s at all.”
She is now going on to study French, German, history and maths at A-level.
