TODAY'S school league tables include a fresh dose of bad news for The Ridings School.
The Halifax school recorded the worst results in Yorkshire in last year's national tests for 14-year-olds and the tenth worst in the country. The figures are released just days before the expected publication of the latest report on the school by the Office for Standards in Education.

It is expected the school will be placed in special measures, a decision which could have significant consequences for its future.

Calderdale Council is already reviewing how education is provided in the area served by The Ridings and the Department for Education and Skills is taking a close interest in what is happening at the school. Teachers at The Ridings threatened to take industrial action last month over a number of issues including pupil behaviour but that has been suspended while efforts are made to address their concerns.
