The talents of visual artists from northern Yorkshire will be revealed at an exhibition taking place at Castle Howard next weekend to raise funds for York Against Cancer.
ARTEXNY 08 will feature the work of 33 artists living and working in the region – or those who were born and raised here who now earn a living in the arts elsewhere.
The first Art Exhibition North Yorkshire in 2006 was a great success – raising al
most £17,000 for York Against Cancer over one weekend.
"We are extremely grateful to the Hon Simon Howard for allowing us to use Castle Howard once again," said Simon Wallace, York Against Cancer marketing co-ordinator. "It is the perfect venue to show off contemporary art amongst wonderful classical art throughout the house.
"The aim of ARTEXNY 08 – apart from raising money for York Against Cancer – is to provide a snapshot of the visual arts scene in Northern Yorkshire at this time."
To mark the event, York Against Cancer is offering Yorkshire Post readers the chance to win a painting by Linda Wormald worth £575. Linda was born in Manchester and later settled in York where she has worked for the last 35 years.
Her first solo exhibition was in 1972, showing a collection of black and white line drawings. Her present work is energetic and vibrant and captures the emotion of landscape and floral compositions.
To be in with a chance of winning, send your name, address and contact details on a postcard to: ARTEXNY 08 Competition, Sarah Freeman, Features department, Yorkshire Post, Wellington Street, Leeds , LS1 1RW. Normal YPN competition rules apply. Closing date for entries is Friday, September 5.
