BARNSLEY have rejected a bid from South Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United for midfielder Brian Howard.
The 25-year-old club captain was supposedly at Bramall Lane last night for a medical to finalise a deal worth in excess of £500,000.

But Barnsley have rejected Sheffield United's bid this morning and accepted an offer from another club.

Birmingham and Wolves were also thought to be interested in the midfielder who scored 14 goals last term.

A club statement read: "At 9.00am this morning the terms offered in writing by Sheffield United for the transfer of Brian (Howard) were not acceptable, most particularly in terms of proposed sell-on arrangements.

"Overnight, Barnsley FC has received a further acceptable offer for Brian from another club, and as is proper, the club has reverted to his agents to obtain formally, their client's instructions in relation to this opportunity."
