DUTCH striker Maceo Rigters last night agreed to join Barnsley on loan for the rest of the season from Blackburn Rovers.
Rigters, 24, will be in the squad for today's opening game against QPR but may have to settle for a place on the bench.
Man
ager Simon Davey has three other new signings lined-up to play at Loftus Road including veteran defender Darren Moore, winger Mounir El Haimour, and striker Iain Hume.
However, the Tykes have now asked FIFA to intervene in a row with Argentinian club Newell's Old Boys over midfielder Hugo Colace.
The 24-year-old will not be allowed to play against QPR today because the Argentinian club are refusing to release his international clearance.
Colace says he is entitled to move to England as a free agent, but Newell's OB are contesting a clause in his contract.
Barnsley will have Peruvian striker Miguel Mossto available after resolving an issue relating to his international clearance last night.
Davey, who steered Barnsley to the semi-finals of last season's FA Cup, is unwilling to say whether promotion or survival is the club's top target this season.
"We want year on year improvement," he said. "We have to improve and we will see where that will take us. I know that as a manager I will live and die by results and I feel under no more pressure than at any other time here.
"We will try to be more resolute and tougher and nastier away from home to pick up more points on the road.
"That is where we have to improve from last season."
QPR are undoubtedly targeting promotion to the Premier League this season after wealthy owners Flavio Briatore, Bernie Ecclestone, and Lakshmi Mittal pumped millions of pounds into the club coffers.
"We are going to QPR under no pressure whatsoever because they are the richest club in the world and are among the favourites to go up from this division," said Davey.
"It is up to them to prove that against us."
Davey, meanwhile, has allowed midfielder Sam Togwell to join League One side Yeovil.
