BARNSLEY manager Simon Davey is adamant that striker Kayode Odejayi has yet to fulfil his potential.

Although Odejayi has scored only four goals this season, his performances for the Tykes in the league and FA Cup have brought selection by Nigeria for World Cup qualifiers in the summer.

Davey, whose side are still locked in the battle for Champio
nship survival, paid £200,000 to sign the 26-year-old from Cheltenham last summer and firmly believes the striker will go from strength to strength.

Speaking ahead of today's game with Charlton Athletic at Oakwell, Davey said: "Kayode has all the attributes to go on and be a top player. He needs to learn to be in the right place at the right time and that is something we are working hard with him on. It will click and he will go far. I am sure he will be wearing a Barnsley shirt when it does.

"Some people will not have a season like his in a lifetime so to top it off with an international call-up for Nigeria is fantastic for the lad. It could not have happened to a better person and I am delighted."

Barnsley are three points clear of the relegation zone with two games to play but Davey would like to make life more comfortable before going into a re-match with FA Cup semi-final opponents Cardiff City on the final day of the season

"We know that if we win this big game it should put everything to bed," he said. "We have to make sure we do not miss our chance."

Since losing to Cardiff at Wembley, the Tykes have taken six points from a possible 12 but, unlike in previous seasons, are not yet safe on 52 points.

"It has been an amazing division and we have to make sure we are involved in it again next season," said Davey.
