Goalkeeper Rhys Evans, defenders Mark Bower and Paul Heckingbotttom, striker Barry Conlon and midfielders Keith Gillespie and Kyle Nix are the players leaving.

Midfielder Lee Bullock and defenders Zesh Rehman and Matt Clarke have been offered new deals but on reduced terms.

Manager Stuart McCall, who has been told to cut wages by around 40 per cent, will sit down with the board on Wednesday.

Defender Luke O'Brien, midfielder Joe Colbeck, striker Leon Osborne and goalkeeper John McLaughlin have been given better deals.

Apart from those few, who are amongst the lowest paid players, wage offers for other players will be less than before.

McCall said: "Just because people are getting offers, it doesn't mean they will accept them.

"They are all going to be on reduced money but that's the way of the world at the moment.

"But hopefully we can offer something that's a good enough incentive package to keep them."

The club are also trying to convince high-earners Paul McLaren, Graeme Lee and Michael Boulding to take up options in their contracts to find another club.

McCall will sit down with top scorer Peter Thorne next week to see whether he still has a future at Valley Parade.

Although Kyle Nix has not been made an offer, McCall has offered him the chance to come back in pre-season.

The manager is also hoping that he can tempt back loanees Nicky Law, Dean Furman and Steve Jones.

In addition, Simon Ainge, Sean Taylforth and Adrian Bellamy have been dispensed with, while youngsters Luke Sharry and Matt Convey have been given six-month contracts.
