BAM's on a roll as company sees turnover rocket
THE company managing services at two Yorkshire hospitals has increased its turnover by 39 per cent.
Facilities management business BAM recorded a turnover of 24.2m in 2008 – up by 39 per cent on the previous year.
The company provides work for over 660 people, including as facilities managers, cleaners, caterers, technicians, janitors, porters, leisure managers and helpdesk operators.
It is celebrating the first five years of a 30-year contract at Wharfedale Locality Hospital in Leeds where it is providing grounds and building maintenance, helpdesk, ener- gy, and health and safety services.
In Doncaster, the company provides similar services to the multi-building mental health unit.
The company also manages the services for the new Latitude Red office complex in the centre of Leeds, which was developed by its sister company BAM Properties.
David MacDonald, BAM FM's director of facilities management, said: "The success of the work we do is mainly about how we match up the best possible people with the specific service needs of our clients. This year we achieved our highest employment numbers, our best health and safety rating, and gained Investors in People status.
"In six years we've grown by over 500 per cent, and are really enjoying our partnership with the healthcare trusts.
"Working alongside our clients everyday inside the facilities we've constructed for them means we share their experience and their communities.
"This is a good incentive to get it exactly right from the start. Understanding how our clients experience our work helps us to design and construct better buildings and to give schools and hospitals world class facilities they genuinely need.
"Also, our staff are real ambassadors for BAM's corporate social responsibility agenda, raising money for charity, providing work experience opportunities for young people and supporting teachers with specialist expertise in areas such as music and home economics."
BAM FM's other major contracts include the management of facilities in schools in Scotland, Bromsgrove, Bristol, Solihull, and Crawley, Cheshire and Derby Police headquarters.
