Bradford 'is best base for business'
BRADFORD has been named the best city for companies to be based, according to a report
A study by Portman Travel found that company bosses praised the workforce, transport links and low traffic congestion of the Yorkshire city.
Manchester and Edinburgh were next in the list of 65 cities, with Oldham and Slough at the bottom.
Bob Govan of Portman Travel said: "This result may surprise many people.
"Smart cities understand the importance of transport infrastructure to commercial success."
London managed only a disappointing mid-table position in the final rankings, behind Edinburgh, Glasgow and Birmingham. Smaller cities – especially those based in the Midlands, such as Nottingham, Stoke, Derby and Leicester – also trumped the capital.
Balbir Panesar, president of the Bradford Chamber of Commerce, said: "In
Bradford we pride ourselves on having the right qualities for creating successful businesses – a large pool of
talented people, and a quality of life that attracts
people here from all over the world.
"This research has borne out what we have long believed to be true – Bradford is the best place in the country to do business."
Companies currently based in Bradford include Bradford & Bingley, Morrisons, Yorkshire Water and Yorkshire Building Society.
