Brewer Acorn raises glass to festive period

Barnsley-based brewer Acorn enjoyed a strong festive sales performance, recording a rise of 29 per cent on 2008.

Altogether 87,500 pints of cask ale left the brewery in the run-up to Christmas.

Acorn managing director and head brewer Dave Hughes said: "We were delighted with December sales, which ended a year of steady growth on a high note as we continue to invest and develop new business.

"Our Barnsley Bitter went extremely well and we soon sold out of both seasonal specials."--Since launching in 2003 Acorn has invested in a new brewery and has a production capacity of 100 barrels a week.
