Capita Symonds snaps up consultant
CAPITA Symonds is strengthening its custodial and healthcare services with its third acquisition in four months.
The firm has acquired Sheffield engineering consultancy Pearce Buckle (Design Engineers) for an undisclosed sum.
Pearce Buckle is one of Britain's leading engineering consultancies in the custodial sector, with key links to HM Prison Service schemes.
It also has a strong reputation in the healthcare sector having worked for a large number of NHS Trusts and as a partner on the ProCure21 framework, delivering NHS schemes including community hospitals, primary care centres and mental health units. The company, which has 40 staff in Sheffield, will now be known as Capita Pearce Buckle and will work closely with Capita Symonds' existing 100-strong office in the city.
Formed in 2000 and subject to a management buy-out in 2002, Pearce Buckle is currently working on over 20 HM Prison schemes, plus the Gateway Plaza mixed-use development in Barnsley and the refurbishment of the Portobello Centre at Sheffield University.
It is also involved in the conversion of RAF Coltishall in Norfolk to a Category C Prison.
Capita Symonds is one of Britain's largest multidisciplinary consultancies operating in the building design, civil engineering, environment, management and transport sectors.
Its latest deal follows the acquisitions of land planning consultancy Lovejoy, London, in March and civil and structural engineering consultancy NRM Bobrowski, which has an office in Sheffield, in April.
Managing director of Capita Symonds Jonathan Goring said: "2008 continues to be an extremely exciting year for Capita Symonds. This is our third acquisition of the year, focused on targeting strategic growth markets with world class niche consultancy skills.
"Pearce Buckle brings a great deal of engineering expertise and experience to Capita Symonds, particularly in the custodial and healthcare sectors, and will undoubtedly strengthen our current work in these markets."
Managing director of Pearce Buckle Kevin Hirst added: "We are delighted to be joining Capita Symonds. Our reputation and expertise has seen us develop a portfolio of high profile projects with a variety of clients, some of whom have very sensitive operations.
"Being part of such a respected and diverse organisation will enable our team to impart their expertise and develop their skills even further, working with other highly respected professionals on exciting projects across a broad range of sectors."
