Cutting edge of new orders
A new Yorkshire laser metal cutting firm hopes to hit turnover of £350,000 in its first year after winning contracts across the engineering industry.
Accurate Laser Cutting was set up by Mike Briggs in Leeds seven weeks ago. The two-man firm invested 600,000 in machinery and hopes to get up to 12 staff by the end of its second year of trading.
So far it has won contracts with firms including a structural engineer and a fabrications firm.
Mr Briggs, who used to work for Bystronic, a Swiss laser cutting firm with a branch in Leeds, has been in the industry for 15 years. He said: "We received our first order on June 3, two days after becoming operational, since when we've completed more than 100, ranging from small-scale prototyping to five-figure value high volume runs."
ALC, which is on Stourton business park in south Leeds, invested 600,000 on a Trumpf laser cutting machine which can operate 24 hours a day.
Mr Briggs hopes shorter lead times will help the firm to win more business and said their sales were twice as high as expected.
