Emmerdale's farm shop stocks up on the best of Yorkshire produce
SOAP opera Emmerdale has signed up seven Yorkshire firms to provide food and drink to be sold in the show's farm shop.
It will stock Yorkshire Crisps, cheese from Shepherd's Purse and Wensleydale Creamery, fruit and vegetables from the Balloon Tree, cooking sauces from the Star Inn, brown eggs and rapeseed oil from Wharfe Valley Farm.
They are all members of deliciouslyorkshire, the consumer brand for the Regional Food Group for Yorkshire and Humber, which has supplied point-of-sale marketing materials, including display stands, aprons and T-shirts to for the Emmerdale shop, Wylde's Home Farm Fayre.
Tony Bishop, managing director, Yorkshire Crisps, said: "We're delighted to be the new stars of Emmerdale. To have our products showcased on one of the nation's favourite television programmes is a fabulous opportunity.
"All of our potatoes are grown and stored locally – even our bags are produced in the county. Emmerdale farm shop is committed to supporting locally produced food and working with local suppliers – so where better to stock our products?"
Martin Radmall, from the production buying team of Emmerdale, which is filmed at Harewood, said: "The Emmerdale farm shop will have similar messages to the regional food group, such as supporting local producers and products and buying seasonal, local food. We're very pleased to include such high-quality products from the region; the Emmerdale families will be spoilt for choice."
Jonathan Knight, chief executive of the regional food group, said: "Our members should be very proud that their products will be seen on a national platform. The exposure will help to highlight how important Yorkshire's produce is."
The regional food group was set up in 2002 and represents 500 producers, manufacturers, hospitality and leisure businesses and retail and wholesale firms.
