Employee confidence returning for schemes
Workers' confidence in pension schemes has improved significantly since the end of last year.
Around 11 per cent more employees currently feel confident about saving for their retirement through a pension than those who are not happy doing so, up from a balance of 7 per cent in March and just 1 per cent at the end of last year.
Nearly two out of five people also think pensions are the best vehicle for retirement saving, beating property and tax-free ISAs, according to the National Association of Pension Funds.
The research, released on the first day of the group's annual conference, also found 84 per cent of people planned to continue to save into a workplace pension during the coming year, while 7 per cent will increase their contributions.
Nearly a third of people also claimed having a pension was their most important employee benefit, with 22 per cent citing flexible working, while 20 per cent rated bonuses and 13 per cent most appreciated having a generous holiday allowance.
Joanne Segars, chief executive of the NAPF, said: "These are really positive and welcome findings and show just how much workplace pensions matter to people.
"Without good quality workplace pensions, millions of people would be worse off in retirement."
