Food company laps up deal with Waitrose
BRADFORD-based speciality food company, Brazilian Flavours, has struck a deal to supply its range of gluten and wheat-free products to the Waitrose supermarket chain.
Isabel Gordon, the founder and creative chef, will see her range of coeliac-friendly products take to the 'free from' aisles at Waitrose stores at the end of April.
She said: "It is so rewarding and incredibly encouraging for my products to be recognised in this way: pursuing my passion for natural ingredients and delicious recipes inspired from the vibrant culture of Brazil has finally paid off."
Ms Gordon added: "My journey has not been without its challenges though and, in recent months, these have been accentuated as the recession has taken hold.
"However, I believe that passion, conviction, sheer drive and determination as well as an ability not to loose sight of my dreams, in spite of set backs and obstacles, has helped me navigate my way to success."
She said: "I hope to see my products more widely available in the 'free-from' aisles at supermarkets and at independent retailers.
"We receive encouraging '10 out of 10' positive ratings especially on the home-baking mixes so it seems consumers want to have these products more easily available.
"Our preserves are so exciting and mouth-watering, there is nothing quite like them.
"I will travel around the country throughout this year to introduce the products direct to consumers at regional and speciality food fairs.
"I also plan to continue developing new recipes and expand the range – to introduce more Brazilian Flavours would be a great prospect."
Ms Gordon is a member of the Regional Food Group for Yorkshire and Humber and has received support from West Yorkshire Ventures and Business Link Yorkshire.
She has also formed a new business relationship with Salvo's, the Leeds-based pizzeria, to provide a pizza base for gluten and wheat intolerant customers to enjoy.
A spokeswoman for the business said: "The ingredients used in Brazilian Flavours products are all responsibly sourced and naturally gluten and wheat-free.
"From the flours used in the Po de Queijo – cheesebread – and Pizza Base Mixes to the very exotic guava and cashew
fruits used in the preserves, Brazilian Flavours aims to offer coeliacs, and non-coeliacs alike, great-tasting foods using largely undiscovered ingredients celebrated for their beneficial properties."
Customers can buy the full range of Brazilian Flavours products throughout the UK from quality independent delicatessens, farm shops, food halls and can also purchase the goods from the online store at www.brazilianflavours.net
