Future's looking good for MYA
COSMETIC surgery firm MYA has reported a 25 per cent increase in inquiries at the beginning of the year compared to the same period last year.
The Leeds-based business, which has 10 clinics across the UK, said that demand for its services had increased rather than dropped during the economic slowdown.
Figures for the first week of January 2009 show there were 1224 inquires nationally compared to 980 for the same week last year.
There was also a reported increase in booked surgery in December 2008 compared to December 2007.
John Ryan, chairman of MYA, which stands for Make Yourself Amazing, said: "The recession is a real thing, but with cosmetic surgery people regard it as a priority in their lives and they will forego a new car or a holiday to get it done.
"People feel it gives them the boost they require in difficult times."
Figures from MYA inquiries show that so far in 2009 the most popular procedure is breast enlargement (62 per cent).
The clinic recently introduced a new patient booking system, creating 12 new jobs in Leeds.
Mr Ryan plans to increase MYA's advertising spend by 1m this year and also aims to open up to six new clinics in the UK.
