Highlighting a patent choice for companies
The Patents County Court (PCC) is hosting an event in York later this month to help those with intellectual property claims find an alternative to traditional High Court action.
The costs of a High Court legal battle have prevented many companies and businesses from seeking justice for infringement of their trade marks.
Many international companies are choosing other, less expensive jurisdictions, to make their legal claim.
For example, Germany attracts between 50 per cent and 70 per cent of all patent litigation in Europe.
In October 2010, rules were introduced by the PCC to make it more attractive for SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises), individuals and those with lower value claims.
According to the PCC, more companies are keen to exercise their rights. However, the PCC believes more work needs to be done to highlight the benefits of using the Patent County Courts system. The event to promote the work of the PCC takes place on January 26 at the Cedar Court Grand Hotel, York, and starts at 6.30pm.
