Land deal opens way for hospital trust to improve and expand
PATIENTS should soon be able to enjoy better healthcare, thanks to a multi-million-pound property deal.
Property consultancy GVA Grimley's residential land division has completed a deal to provide Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust with extra land.
Previously leased by the Royal Bank of Scotland, the former Lombard Bank site's 44,000 sq ft office buildings and car park will become home to most of the trust's non -clinical facilities.
Based 300 yards from the existing hospital, on Moorgate Road, Rotherham, the extra space will help to improve the quality of care offered to the 400,000 patients who pass through its doors each year.
It also provides opportunities to extend its clinical facilities on the original hospital site.
Tom Aylott, head of GVA Grimley's residential land division, said: "The site's proximity to the hospital's existing location is ideal and it provides exceptional opportunities for the trust to push forward with its expansion plans."
Brian James, chief executive of Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust, said: "The purchase of the site means we can move forward more quickly with elements of our redevelopment programme. This will bring substantial improvements in the quality and safety of our services and facilities for patients using Rotherham Hospital.
"We also have a number of exciting plans for the former Lombard Bank site which we look forward to announcing as soon as the details are finalised."
GVA Grimley is one of the UK's biggest firms of property consultants. It operates from 12 offices, and 838 fee-earners generated a turnover of 148m in the year ending April 30. It provides planning and regeneration, rating, building consultancy, investment, management and valuation services.
