Lawyers behind city centre coup

A Leeds and Sheffield-based law firm has helped Rushbond plc on a new £1.6m acquisition in York.

HLW Commercial Lawyers advised on the purchase of the mixed-use commercial building in York city centre, currently used by Laura Ashley, Bank of Scotland and York Council, which brings the value of Rushbond's regional investments to an estimated 50m.

Rushbond's commercial portfolio also includes properties on St Leonard's Place, Toft Green, Micklegate in York, Sheaf Quay in Sheffield and Brewery Wharf and Waterside in Leeds. Claire Murphy, a partner in the commercial property team at HLW Commercial Lawyers, advised Rushbond on the purchase from Standard Life.

"This is an attractive investment due to its secure long-term income stream and scope for future rental growth," she said.

"The acquisition underlines Rushbond's ongoing commitment to strengthening its property portfolio across the region."

And in Sheffield, the consultancy group White Young Green is opening a new office in Sheffield.

The office is in a key location, adjacent the Parkway, close to ongoing and future projects at the AMP Waverley site, where WYG have successfully delivered major building and infrastructure projects for Yorkshire Forward.

At present, WYG is working with a wide range of clients in the area including: Yorkshire Forward, George Wimpey, Barnsley College, YEDL, Renaissance South Yorkshire and the Coal Authority, w here its engineering, environmental, rail and planning expertise are paramount to the successful completion of key projects.

WYG's project experience includes providing engineering support to the Court Services in South Yorkshire including, Sheffield Magistrates Court.
