Lawyers go back to school to help pupils dream up their ideal job

LAWYERS have returned to the classroom to encourage children to find the job of their dreams.

Leeds Legal Education and Enterprise Week, organised by Leeds Ahead, is offering lawyers the chance to take part in the Dream Tree initiative.

The project encourages children in Leeds to identify their ideal job and find out more about the skills they will need to get it.

The activities include mock interviews to start children thinking about the world of work.

This year, around 100 volunteers from Pinsent Masons, Beachcroft, Irwin Mitchell, Gordons, Eversheds, Hammonds, Watson Burton and Blacks Solicitors are taking part in a range of sessions, working with 500 children in primary schools around the city.

Rosemary Edwards, director of Leeds Legal and a partner at Shulmans, said: "This is the second year we have hosted this event, and each time the children really engage with the volunteers.

"They always ask lots of questions about our jobs and it's great fun working with them to identify their career goals and planning what qualifications and experience they will need to get into their chosen profession."

Stephanie Burras, chief executive of Leeds Ahead, said: "The children gain a lot from working with the volunteers and really enjoy all the activities."
