New retail chief for British Land

BRITISH Land has appointed Charles Maudsley to head up its retail property business in a boardroom reshuffle it hopes will promote further growth in the £5.3bn portfolio.

Maudsley, who currently serves as executive director for business expansion, will also assume responsibility for the group's portfolio of retail parks and malls after joining the company from LaSalle Investment Management last month. That includes the group's 50 per cent stake in Sheffield's Meadowhall shopping centre.

His appointment comes one month after the official departure date of former retail head Andrew Jones, who last year resigned from British Land with two other members of its retail operations to pursue new ventures.

Ben Grose, who has been with British Land since 2005, has been appointed head of retail asset management, reporting to Maudsley.

Tim Roberts continues to be responsible for managing British Land's 2.5bn office portfolio and for office investment and development.
