New base in region for forensics supplier

A SUPPLIER of forensics equipment has opened a logistics base in Yorkshire to service a new contract with West Yorkshire Police.

Tek-Niche Products has established a new operation at Allerton Bywater Networkcentre in Castleford.

The base will be used to house a small logistics team and store crime scene consumables such as fingerprint recovery powers and specialist car and cell pods.

Christopher Whattam, managing director of Tek-Niche, said: "Allerton Bywater Networkcentre provides the security, accommodation and location given its close proximity to the M1, A1 and M62, that will enable us to provide the most timely and efficient service to West Yorkshire Police.

"Customer service is our highest priority and it is important to us that we are strategically positioned to meet out clients' logistical requirements."

The Norfolk-based company also has logistics hubs in Norwich, Nazeing and Coventry.

Allerton Bywater Networkcentre was created by Network Space, a public-private venture launched in 1999 to help regenerate former coalfield sites.

Claire Chisholm, the Network Space property manager, said: "Allerton Bywater Networkcentre is now nearing full occupancy, with just one more unit available, demonstrating that our design, combining office and workspace is proving to be a winning formula among our target SME audiences.

"It is rewarding to see businesses like Tek-Niche and their neighbours moving into Castleford from outside the area, bringing with them new jobs and bolstering the local economy."

Network Space has developed 22 such centres, working with developer Langtree and English Partnerships, the Government's national regeneration agency, which has delivered more than 700,000 sq ft of space for small and medium-sized companies.
