Red Carpet is laid out for four young technology companies

FOUR fledgling Yorkshire hi-tech ventures have been awarded a total of £4,000 worth of consultancy to help move their start-ups forward.

Ten science and technology companies pitched their ideas to a panel of investors at the InvestorQuest Red Carpet Day, organised by Connect Yorkshire.

The four which presented the best propositions to representatives from a number of funds were selected to receive support and consultancy.

RandomStorm will receive intellectual property advice from Murgitroyd & Company, Tyrecycling won accounting and financial support from Mazars, Neotherix will receive legal advice from Clarion Solicitors, while Data Equation is to receive marketing support from Turn Key.

The four supporting companies sponsored the event, which was held at Clarion's Leeds office.

Leeds-based RandomStorm develops internet filtering for consumers and businesses.

Tyrecycling, of York, uses the crumbs produced from recycled tyres to manufacture items including loading bay barriers so vehicles are protected from scraping against walls.

York-based Neotherix devises medical technology for post-surgery tissue repair, and Data Equation, of Sheffield, develops computer file systems for creative and digital industries that can be accessed online internationally. The consultants will work with the four young companies, advising them on developing their ideas and preparing them for applying for potential investment.

Each company presented to investors from the Viking Fund, Enterprise Venture's Rising Stars Fund, YFM Group and the South Yorkshire Investment Fund's Seedcorn Fund.

Glen Hopkinson, managing director of Connect Yorkshire, said: "The breadth of development and entrepreneurship represented by the companies at InvestorQuest is inspirational and demonstrates the growth of innovative technology in Yorkshire. We look forward to working with the winning companies and our sponsors to set them on the path to investment."

Connect Yorkshire nurtures emerging technology and science companies and links them with investors looking for growth .
