Top surgeons help to strengthen SI board

Keyhole surgery specialist Surgical Innovations has appointed colorectal consultant surgeon John Griffith and neurosurgeon Jake Timothy to its clinical advisory board with immediate effect.

The Leeds-based company said Mr Griffith will work with the SI’s design team to develop products to meet the particular needs of colorectal surgery.

The group said Mr Timothy, a consultant neurosurgeon and spine surgeon specialising in the management of head trauma and the development of spinal surgery at Leeds General Infirmary, has introduced many new techniques to the department with a focus on minimally invasive surgery.

Graham Bowland, SI’s chief executive, said: “John’s expertise in colorectal surgery will help us increase our awareness in this area and he is already liaising closely with our design team to develop new technologies for this specialism.

“Jake will be the first spinal surgeon to join SI’s clinical advisory board and reinforces our strategy to transfer our technology into new areas of the body.

“Our clinical advisory board now consists of 11 extremely experienced surgeons with differing fields of speciality allowing SI to develop products to suit a broad range of clinical disciplines.”

Dr Robin Campbell, analyst at Seymour Pierce, said: “SI is keen to bring new concepts for improved surgical instrumentation to the minimally invasive surgery space.

“An important strategic pillar for the company is to introduce new instrument product suites that broaden the current focus outside of abdominal keyhole surgery.

“John, Jake and the other consultants should be instrumental in helping SI forge ahead into these new potential growth areas.”

He said growth areas include spinal, thoracic, cardiac and neuro surgeries.
