Website offers access to specialists

A new website providing free access to Yorkshire lawyers and financial specialists is to be launched this week.

Corporate lawyer Tim MacLean is launching the new portal – LegalandFinancial100.co.uk – to match financial and legal experts to the needs of individuals and business clients.

The website will provide free, direct access to lawyers and financial specialists who will respond to user enquiries with details of experience, location, their firm and their rates.

This will allow potential clients to get information before incurring the costs of meeting lawyers and financial professionals. The portal will be based at offices in Knaresborough.

The website represents an investment of over 100,000 by Mr MacLean, a former Keeble Hawson corporate lawyer, with the backing of NatWest Bank.

The website will give users direct, free access to 100 legal and 100 financial experts who work in different fields of law and finance throughout Yorkshire and the Humber.

Once a confidential enquiry has been made through the portal, the inquiry will be passed anonymously to up to 10 of the most experienced professional.

"The aim of LegalandFinancial100.co.uk is to act as an exclusive 'one stop shop' for people seeking legal and financial advice," said chief executive Mr MacLean.

"It will bridge the gap between professionals and potential clients by helping people to find the most qualified specialists in the field they require.

"Too often, people use the same legal firm or financial advisors, regardless of the specific nature of the work they

require."

He added: "We are providing a very confidential and private way for individuals to easily identify, and get direct access to, the most qualified and experienced experts."

The site will offer family lawyers, conveyancers, corporate lawyers and specialists in commercial mortgages and finance.

"It has been very tough for a member of the public to find the most experienced specialist as opposed to a firm," said Mr MacLean.

"Our service allows people to 'window-shop' and enquire about expertise before they make the leap to make an appointment to see an advisor for a particular problem or task they need assistance with."

After 10 years as a corporate lawyer involved in corporate and private equity work, Mr MacLean came up with the idea two years ago and has spent many months developing the venture.

He said a professional lifetime hearing clients complaining that there was no easy and confidential way to find specialist legal skills inspired him to provide the online service.

Members will also be encouraged to network within the portal and benefit from cross-referrals from their fellow professionals.

The concept has received a positive response from legal and financial experts based in Yorkshire during trials and more than 20 professionals who have assisted with feedback and testing of the website have already registered to be members.
