Wind of change for service provider
A YORKSHIRE firm which maintains small wind turbines is on a rapid growth trajectory and hopes to double its workforce.
Windcare, based in a Portakabin on a farm in Pickering, North Yorkshire, has achieved turnover of more than £400,000 in its first year of trading.
The firm provides back-up to manufacturers and distributors of wind turbines throughout the UK and plans to double its current workforce of 10 in its second year.
It was founded by Alex Thornton, Duncan Bulmer and Mark Wilson.
Mr Thornton said: “The first year has been frantic although very exciting. We’ve encountered astonishing growth by providing an essential link in the wind turbine supply chain in the sub-500kW sector.
“Small and medium wind is still in its infancy but we saw how fast the sector was growing – especially for single farm-based turbines because of the Government incentives on offer. We recognised that there was a market for an independent service provider specialising in feed-in-tariff scale turbines.”
