YORKSHIRE pub company Classic Bar Holdings is expanding its portfolio of pubs after receiving £4.5m funding.

The Leeds-based firm, which has recently bought and refurbished the Ovendon Cross pub in Halifax, owns 55 freehold pubs in the north of England.

The company buys pubs and re-opens them under the Quality Taverns banner.

Allied Irish Bank in Leeds provided the latest funding.

Paul Crompton, managing director of Classic Bar Holdings, said: "Thanks to this deal and the close relationship we developed with Allied Irish Bank (GB) we have given these pubs a bit of TLC and opened them back up to their local community. Initial signs show they're performing well."

Anthony Giliker, senior corporate banking manager of Allied Irish Bank (GB) Leeds, added: "It's very satisfying to see the positive impact of the funding package and be a part of the business as it expands even further."
