AN educational adventure company has bought Dobroyd Castle in Todmorden for £2.1m.

Robinwood Activity Centres acquired the 19th century castle with 17 acres of countryside to run outward bound and team building courses for young people.

The acquisition marks an expansion of the Lancashire-based company's existing estate, which includes another site in Todmorden and a site in Alston, Cumbria.

Martin Vasey, managing director of Robinwood Activities Centres, said: "We've spent a long time surveying potential sites for the new centre and are thrilled Dobroyd Castle can now meet the needs of schools from across the country.

"We aim to retain the site's heritage and beauty and develop it in a sympathetic way to preserve its historical allure."

Robinwood will operate a range of activities from Dobroyd Castle including archery, climbing, caving, trapeze, a zip wire and an obstacle course from next spring. Law firm Ralli and planners at Jones Lang LaSalle advised on the deal.
