LEEDS Rhinos have struck a deal with Yorkshire County Cricket Club that will see a Roses match and a Carnegie Challenge Cup quarter-final take place at Headingley on the same day.

The Super League champions feared they might have to move their televised Cup tie against Wigan in two weeks' time to Elland Road because Yorkshire will be using the stadium for their county championship match against Lancashire over that weekend.
But the clubs yesterday reached agreement that will enable the BBC to follow Leeds's bid for a rugby league grand slam on Saturday, May 31 while Yorkshire do Roses battle on the adjacent cricket pitch.

"We are delighted to be playing at Headingley Carnegie in the quarter-final and we would like to thank Yorkshire for their co-operation," said Leeds's chief executive Gary Hetherington.

"We all know how special and unique Headingley is and days like this go to prove how true that is. There will be logistical challenges that we will need to overcome but the important issue is that there is a willingness from all parties to make both matches a success."

Huddersfield have turned to Australia to address their lack of a reliable full-back by signing Brett Hodgson from Wests Tigers on a two-year contract.

The 30-year-old will join the Super League club, who have been found wanting at full-back all season, at the end of the year to become the fifth former Wests Tiger player at the Galpharm Stadium, joining John Skandalis, Jamahl Lolesi, Shane Elford and Paul Whatuira.

Hodgson, who was a member of the Tigers' 2005 grand final-winning team, has made 212 appearances in the NRL and played six times for NS Wales.

Bradford Bulls have agreed a new three-year contract with Wayne Godwin that will keep the 25-year-old at Grattan Stadium until the end of the 2011 season.

Godwin, 25, has missed only one game since joining the Bulls at the start of this term as understudy to Terry Newton and had been linked with a return to his first club, Castleford.

The Tigers received a timely boost when prop Craig Huby, at 21 their longest serving player, signed a three-year contract extension.

Huby, who made his senior debut just weeks after his 17th birthday in 2003, made his 90th appearance at Millennium Magic, when the Tigers lost for the 11th time in 13 matches. He follows Joe Westerman and Ryan McGoldrick in making a long term commitment to the club.
