SOUTH AFRICAN batsman Jacques Rudolph has thrown his hat into the ring to become Yorkshire's next captain.
Rudolph said he would love to take over from retiring captain Darren Gough, but admitted vice-captain Anthony McGrath was in pole position.
"I would love to be the next Yorkshire captain, but I think the natural decision would obviously be Anthony," said Rudolph, who has led Yorkshire on occasions when Gough and McGrath have been unavailable.
"Whether Anthony would take it or not, I don't know. I assume that he would, and he would be the natural successor, I suppose.
"But I would never say never in terms of wanting to do the job, although it hasn't been discussed with me."
Rudolph said he would relish the challenge of leading the team.
"Captaincy in general has always been a big ambition of mine. Whether I would be good at it or not, I don't know. That's one of the main reasons why I would like to give it a go.
"But if it's not next year, then I'm still only 27, and there might be other opportunities to captain the team further down the line."
