In the picture

IT is understandable why organisations like VisitBritain use this region's breathtaking scenery as the backdrop to their promotional material; there is simply nowhere else to match the countryside in this area.
Nevertheless, it takes an exceptional piece of tourism literature to do full justice to Yorkshire's beauty. However, there is an alternative – and that is the moving images provided by those films and television series produced in these parts.
Their importance should not be under-estimated. North Yorkshire is still the enjoying economic spin-offs from the filming of Brideshead Revisited at Castle Howard, or the Hogwarts Express trundling across the North York Moors as part of the Harry Potter films.
Captivated by the scenery, families understandably want to visit the location of their favourite scene. And, as such, it is to be hoped that Unforgiven, the latest television drama to be filmed in Yorkshire, will have a similar pulling power when viewers see the ruggedness of the landscape around Halifax and Huddersfield.
In these difficult times, any drama or film which keeps Yorkshire in the picture should not only be welcomed, but encouraged.
