Children set to lead May Day celebration

There's a bit of history attached to Aldborough's Maypole – 45 feet high, it was formerly a ship's mast and is topped with a gold leaf crown made from two First World War shell cases.
Tomorrow, children will be attached to it as well, when the village, near Boroughbridge, holds its traditional Mayday celebrations (May 11) starting at 2pm.
This year's May Queen is Kerry McCormack, 10, who has been dancing since she was six.
The day starts with a procession around the village before arriving at the maypole on the village green where Kerry will be crowned by last year's May Queens, the Wilson twins, after which the dancing begins and all the traditional village fete attractions will be there – craft stalls, hoopla, tombola, and demonstrations by North Yorkshire police and fire brigade. This year's nominated charity is the TOM Foundation which supports bereaved families of road traffic victims.
