A COUPLE whose dream move to the North Yorkshire countryside lay in tatters when their home burnt down are poised to win planning permission for a new house on the site - at the second attempt.
Harrogate Council initially rejected Geoff and Sarah Whittington's application to demolish their fire-damaged cottage at Blazefield, in Bewerley, near Pateley Bridge, and build a new home in its place.
But, after the scheme was ammended, planners have changed their mind and advised councillors to give it the green light when they meet next Tuesday.
The Nidderdale cottage, which is thought to date back to the 1600s, was severely damaged by fire in May 2007.
The Whittingtons' plans were initially refused because Government guidelines say a house shouldn't be built on the site, but the council agreed to look at the planning rules again.
