The former Rotherham United and Sunderland striker has yet to start for his new club and will again be on the bench for tonight's home game against Charlton Athletic.
Manager Sean O'Driscoll said: "Whether starting with Darren would take away some
of our cohesion, I am not sure. Maybe he needs a little more time with us.
"Darren does what he is good at – which is something out of the blue, nearly scoring a goal – and, so far, coming off the bench has been the role that suits him."
Rovers suffered defeat at the weekend to high-flyers Birmingham City but will be looking to record a second consecutive home win against Charlton.
O'Driscoll said: "There is huge pressure on Charlton because this is the last season of their parachute payments.
"They are a side that everyone will want to beat because of their pedigree."
Only three points seperate the 15 clubs sitting between the play-off zone and the relegation zone and O'Driscoll says the Championship will be just as close as last season.
"It is why so many people find the Championship more interesting that the Premier League," said O'Driscoll. "I am enjoying it so far. It's a bigger stage than last season and there are more famous names standing next to you in the dug-out."
Last six games: Rovers WLDLWL, Charlton WLLWLL.
Last time: No previous meeting.
Referee: NS Miller (Durham).
