Relieved Doncaster manager Sean O'Driscoll saw his side score their first home goal since August and it was enough to hand them a three vital Championship points.
On-loan defender Shelton Martis headed the decisive goal three minutes before half-time to move bottom-placed Doncaster level on points with Nottingham Forest.
Doncaster have had little luck this season and O'Driscoll said: "I think I'm going to h
ave to wear this jacket, shirt and pants every game now.
"We played how we've played in all the games so far – we didn't approach this any different.
"We got a goal, which was nice, and it was something to cling onto and something to fight for.
"We had a little bit of luck where we could have conceded two or three goals but all credit goes to the players."
On match-winner Martis he added: "He's got pace and attacks the ball well. In his two games, we've kept two clean sheets – he's done very well."
Disappointed Ipswich chief Jim Magilton admitted: "It's a poor defeat because the last seven or eight games we've been very good but four or five players were below par today.
"Doncaster deserve credit because they had to dig in for almost an hour."
Doncaster started brightly when Sam Hird's goalbound volley was diverted over by Alex Bruce.
But it was Bruce's defensive partner Richard Naylor who nearly bagged the opener when his powerful 20th-minute header thumping the bar.
Magilton handed a start to David Norris despite suggestions he might take the midfielder out of the firing line following his controversial handcuff goal celebration last weekend.
In light of his message to jailed pal Luke McCormick, every touch by Norris was met with a chorus of boos and he wasted a great opportunity to silence the home crowd by scuffing wide from close range on 40 minutes.
Moments later the action switched to the other end and Doncaster took a lead they were not to relinquish.
Matt Mills headed Brian Stock's free-kick back across the goal and Martis, in his second game since joining from West Brom, got his head on the ball to put Rovers ahead. It was the home side's first goal at the Keepmoat Stadium since their 1-0 win over Coventry on August 30.
