HULL City gave Manchester United a huge scare at Old Trafford as they went down 4-3 to the European champions.
Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring with a low strike before Daniel Cousin headed Hull City level at the near post.

Michael Carrick struck from 20 yards, Ronaldo headed in a corner and Nemanja Vidic volleyed home as United led 4-1.

But Bernard Mendy lobbed Edwin van der Sar, and when Mendy was fouled by Rio Ferdinand, Geovanni converted the penalty to set up a grandstand finish.

In the Championship, Sheffield United beat Plymouth Aryle thanks to two goals from former England striker James Beattie.

Barnsley enjoyed a 3-1 away win at troubled Charlton, Jon Macken netting twice before Darren Moore secured the points, while there were draws for Sheffield Wednesday (away to Crystal Palace) and Doncaster Rovers (at home to Swansea City).

In League One, Leeds United gained their first away win since September with a 1-0 win at Cheltenham Town, Luciano Becchio scoring the only goal of the day.

And there was an amazing game at Huddersfield Town. The Terriers tossed away a 2-0 lead against Crewe, only for Parker to pop up in the closing moments to grab a winner - and then get red carded.

Both Bradford City and Rotherham United drew their League Two matches - but in contrasting circumstances.

While the Millers held high-flying Wycombe to a goalless draw, the Bantams shared six goals with Barnet and had to settle for a point despite taking the lead three times through Barry Conlon (2) and Peter Thorne.

York City suffered a 1-0 defeat at Oxford United in the Blue Square Premier after conceding a late Yemi Odubade penalty.
