Heffernan is likely to be recalled after serving a three-match ban that forced him to sit out the club's League One play-off final victory over Leeds United at Wembley three months ago.
O'Driscoll said: "Paul deserves credit for his attitude and w
ork-rate. A moment of frustration, rather than madness, cost him appearances in a couple of big games, but he has always trained well and never lets his head go down."
Heffernan, who was sent off for headbutting in the first leg of a play-off semi-final against Southend United, spent five years at Notts County after moving to English football from Ireland as a teenager. He joined Rovers three years ago and has scored 43 goals in 82 starts.
O'Driscoll admits he may be tempted to rotate his squad tonight. "Doncaster Rovers have established a good reputaion in the Cups over the last few years and we want to keep that going," he said.
"When you are a team in League One or League Two, you always tend to put out your best teams in this competition," he added. "But we will have to look at how difficult the Championship is going to be in relation to whether we rest one or two players."
Last six games: Doncaster WWWDLW, Notts County LDWLWL.
