If Doncaster Rovers are to kick-start their faltering Championship season today, they will have to make history at Hillsborough.
For Rovers have never got a point at Hillsborough in the League, never mind the fact that they have never beaten their South Yorkshire neighbours apart from the odd Cup success.
That came 30 years ago in a League Cup first round meeting. To be fai
r, they have only met six times in the league, the last time in League One in the 2004-05 season when Wednesday hammered Rovers 4-0 pre-Keepmoat, before goals from Lee Bullen and Drew Talbot recorded a 2-0 win at Hillsborough.
In the Wednesday team that day was Graeme Lee, who would later make the trip down the motorway to join Rovers.
Now captain at Bradford City, Lee admits it will be the first result he looks for after his side's game with MK Dons.
"Doncaster Rovers versus Sheffield Wednesday is always a big game for both teams and for both supporters and it is a proper battle," said Lee.
"I think whoever is up for it the most will emerge the winners. I've found in some way, it is a game where you can forget about league position and just concentrate on the occasion.
"Sheffield Wednesday have had some decent results, so they may be confident but Doncaster are hungry and want that win which could kick-start the rest of their season. Anyone can beat anyone on their day," added the 30-year-old centre-half.
"I watched the Steel City derby on television the other week and they have some talented young lads in their ranks. They were very young lads in the academy when I was there and now they are making their mark on the club and the division."
Richie Wellens looks likely to be in the Rovers squad after missing five games with a groin injury.
"Richie has had a full week's training and played in a game against Aston Villa on Tuesday afternoon," said manager Sean O'Driscoll. "Obviously, it was a bit stiff and sore, which is to be expected. He looks positive and we would look to include him.
"His groin was a bit of an ongoing situation and it got to the point that we had to do something about it. He has come back about as quickly as you can from that injury.
"He was perhaps an outside chance of being included in the 16 against Swansea, but you don't want to run the risk of him being set back another week."
