DONCASTER Rovers striker Mark McCammon yesterday became the third player to reject a new deal and quit the newly-promoted Championship club.
McCammon opted to step down two divisions to join Gillingham on a three-year deal rather than accept the offer of a one-year deal at the Keepmoat Stadium. It is the third blow of the summer for manager Sean O'Driscoll, who has already lost the servic
es of midfielder Paul Green to Derby County and defender Steve Roberts to Walsall.
McCammon, 29, had spent two years at Rovers and played a key role in the club's promotion via the play-offs last season.
Veteran defender Darren Moore has signed a two-year deal with Barnsley after being released by Derby County.
The former Jamaican international, 34, has won promotion from the Championship previously with three different clubs – Bradford, West Bromwich Albion (twice), and Derby – and made 31 appearances for Derby in the Premier League last season.
Manager Simon Davey said: "We have been looking to increase competition at the back and have brought in a player with a proven pedigree. He will play a big part in our squad next season both on and off the pitch and his experience will be a massive bonus."
Moore rejected offers from several clubs, including Leicester City and Bradford, to join the Tykes and will be competing with Stephen Foster and Dennis Souza for a centreback shirt.
Midfielder Dwayne Mattis has joined Walsall after being released by the Tykes.
