Academy has plenty to celebrate

A new inner-city academy has plenty to celebrate and more to look forward to as better results is giving it a growing sixth-form. About to join it are two pupils with the equivalent of 28 GCSE grades between them.

David Young Community Academy was set up to replace Agnes Stewart and Braim Wood High School for Boys, in East Leeds. Now that 70 per cent of students achieve five good GCSEs up to 100 will go on to the sixth form.

Eva Tse, 16, achieved the equivalent of 16 GCSE passes with Btec qualifications in sport, art and ICT and GCSEs while Simeon Adjei-Doku achieved the equivalent of 12 passes which included A* and A grades.
