TALENTED young linguists at Sheffield High School were showing off their skills today after scooping A* grades in a range of languages - including a 10-year-old girl who achieved an A* in Japanese.
Emily Hogg, who has a Japanese mother, astounded teachers and family by picking up the top grade in the Oriental language.
She was helped by her mother who would to her in her native tongue.
"It was hard work and I'm really pleased with the result," the youngster said.
Emily was one of five girls at Sheffield High School, which teaches children from four to 18, who sat an early GCSE examination and who all passed with A*.
The talented students included 14-year-old Panayiota Soutis who not only passed her modern Greek at A* but is one of the top 10 candidates in the country.
Also celebrating were Emily Jia, 12, who achieved an A* in Chinese and 13-year-old Camelia Yousefpour who scooped French A*. Verity Bridge, 14, also gained A* in French.
