Butchers and breeders were persuaded of the benefits of buying Lleyn sheep at an open day at Steeton, near Keighley, last weekend, sponsored by the North and East Lleyn Sheep Breeders Group.

Graham and Mandy Fort's open day gave a crowd of more than 200 chance to see 800 Lleyns and 200 Suffolks grazing on the hillsides of Brighton House Farm, and a wide age range of both breeds in the farm's pens. They were also shown why Lleyn sheep – a rare breed of north Welsh origin – are noted for their proflicacy, mothering ability and economical grazing.

Mr Fort is the new chairman of the North and East Lleyn Sheep Breeders Group. For information on sale dates, contact Mr Fort on 01535 654739 or secretary Linda Barnard on 01653 698580.
