Organic livestock producers in northern England are being invited to join a new co-operative-style marketing scheme.

Agri-Connect Organics has been set up by Nick White and Sue Kelly of WKD Consulting in Colburn, North Yorkshire.

Mr White worked for the Soil Association in the Yorkshire Organic Centre, at Skipton, for the nine months before it folded from lack of funding.

Yorkshire Forward was willing to continue paying some of the costs but sponsors could not be found for the rest.

Mr White said Agri-
Connect Organics is an idea he wanted to get going through the Yorkshire Organic Centre. He says it will be modelled on, and linked to, an existing scheme for Wales and the South West, Graig Producers, which has 500 members, some supermarket contracts and a website at graigproducers.co.uk

Would-be members will be asked to put up about £150 – "a one-off capitalisation loan of £90", a £10 share purchase and a £50 annual fee for the marketing services.

ACO will also charge two per cent commission. But the members will share any profits, said Mr White.
