FARMERS and chefs will appear side by side to celebrate Yorkshire produce at next month's Beverley Food Festival.

Some of the county's finest producers will assist chefs as part of a series of cooking demonstrations at the event on Sunday, October 5.

Organisers hope that by bringing together chefs and the producers who actually provide them with the ingredients will draw attention to the pressures facing many in the agricultural community, and help to promote Yorkshire produce. More than 10,000 people turned up at the culinary extravaganza last year. Organisers are hoping for a record attendance this year.

The demonstrations will take place in a 200-seat food theatre marquee in the town.

Councillor Matt Snowden, festival chairman, said the impact of food miles on the environment, increa-sed cost pressures on farmers and the need for ethical food production all contri-buted to making supporting Yorkshire producers more important than ever.
