HULL City manager Phil Brown smashed the club's transfer record yesterday to land Plymouth Argyle winger Peter Halmosi and also unveiled new signings George Boateng and Tony Warner.
The triple swoop took his tally of new signings to six ahead of the club's first season in the Premier League but Brown's summer shopping is still far from over.

Manchester United striker Fraizer Campbell, South African winger Delron Buckley and Argentinian goalkeeper Sebastian Cejas are also lined-up for moves to the KC Stadium as well as a top-class centreback.

Brown has already landed Brazilian midfielder Geovanni, French defender Bernard Mendy and Derby County striker Craig Fagan.

"This is a fantastic day for Hull City Football Club and a lot of hard work has gone into getting these lads here," said Brown. "Although the fee for Peter will remain undisclosed, it is obviously more than a million pounds so we have broken our transfer record.

"Left-footers are priceless," he added. "Left-footers with pace, who can go past people, get a cross in and provide balance to the midfield are even more priceless.

"He also has an eye for goal and, although he's only played at Championship level in this country, he has played at the highest level back home in Hungary and we believe he can play in the Premier League."

Halmosi, 28, has 12 caps for Hungary and moved to English football 18 months ago when joining Plymouth from Debrecen. The Tigers beat off competition from Sheffield United and West Bromwich Albion to secure his services on a four-year deal and it is believed they have paid a sum in the region of £2m.

"This a big chance in my career to play in the Premier League," said Halmosi. "I won't worry about how much Hull have paid, I'm a professional football player and I'll just go out on the pitch and play."

Dutch international Boateng, meanwhile, admitted he had quit a 'comfort zone' at Middlesbrough to accept the challenge of helping newly-promoted Hull adjust to life in the top-flight.

Boateng, 32, had spent the last six years at the Riverside Stadium and still had another year left on his contract but was unlikely to play regular first-team football this season. He has signed a two-year deal with the Tigers along with veteran goalkeeper Warner who had been released this summer by Fulham. Warner, 34, has played for 10 other clubs during his career, including Barnsley and Leeds United on loan, and has been signed as cover for Welsh international Boaz Myhill.

Brown is also considering a move for a second new goalkeeper, experienced Argentinian Cejas, who has arrived on trial and whose previous clubs include Fiorentina, Empoli, and Roma in the Italian league.

Campbell is still a top target for Brown but is currently back training with Manchester United after spending the majority of last season on loan at the KC Stadium.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has promised to give Hull first refusal on Campbell should he decide to allow the player to leave Old Trafford at the start of the new season.

Sheffield United striker Danny Webber insists he wants to stay at Bramall Lane despite speculation over a move to Neil Warnock's Crystal Palace.

Webber, 26, is entering the final year of his contract after missing much of last season with knee trouble.

"Of course I want to be here otherwise I could have moved on," he said. "I'm happy here and I want to show everybody I can play good football."

Barnsley have joined the chase for Northern Ireland international striker Peter Thompson who is also wanted by Norwich City and Stockport County.

Leeds United manager Gary McAllister is likely to announce his fourth new signing of the summer today after agreeing terms with an un-named player.

Cheltenham want striker Michael Boulding who is training with Rotherham United and attracting interest from Bradford City.

Former Middlesbrough striker Andy Campbell is hoping to secure a move to non-league Farsley Celtic.
