HULL CITY have stepped up their search for a striker by enquiring about Chelsea's Claudio Pizarro.
Hull badly need to bolster their attacking options with the new Premier League season just four days away after missing out on several targets during the summer.

Pizarro is understood to be surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge after netting just twice last season following his free transfer switch from Bayern Munich.

With Caleb Folan a major doubt for the season's opener at home to Fulham on Saturday with a an abductor injury, Hull manager Phil Brown may have to turn to 39-year-old Dean Windass to lead the attack.

Brown has contacted Chelsea about the possibility of taking Pizarro to the KC Stadium on loan and is understood to be facing competition from fellow Premier League newcomers Stoke City.

However, it remains to be seen if the Blues are willing to let the 29-year-old leave before the outcome of their move for Real Madrid's Robinho is known.

Pizarro, who started his career with Peruvian outfit Deportivo Pesquero in 1996, made 21 Premier League appearances last term but 17 were from the bench.

Meanwhile, former Hull target Ivan Campo has signed for Ipswich Town from Bolton.

The 34-year-old – a former Real Madrid player – agreed the move last week and has signed a two-year contract at Portman Road after passing a medical.
