PHIL BROWN admits Hull City are in "dreamland" after soaring to third in the Premier League. A spectacular ninth-minute free-kick by Geovanni against Tottenham Hotspur was enough to ensure the Tigers claimed all three points in North London for a second consecutive weekend.

The manner of the display may not have been as impressive as against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium eight days earlier, but Hull fully deserved to claim a 1-0 win that condemned Spurs to their worst start to a season in 96 years.

Juande Ramos's side are propping up the Premier League with just two points from seven games, a record that is in stark contrast to that of the Tigers.

This win means Hull have claimed more points on their travels than any other side in the top flight and sit third in the table behind Chelsea and Liverpool.

Brown was rightly proud of all his players, but reserved special praise for Geovanni for the manner in which he has bounced back from being dropped earlier in the season.

The Brazilian scored Hull's first goal in the Premier League in the opening-day win over Fulham, but his influence faded in subsequent games and
he was relegated to the bench after the 5-0 home defeat to Wigan Athletic in August.

Brown felt his summer signing from Manchester City was not contributing enough to the team.

However, after two goals in as many games since being restored to the starting line-up at
Arsenal, the Tigers manager has revealed his delight at Geovanni's response.

Brown said: "He has only started seven Premier League games and yet he has scored five goals. It is a pleasure to work with him, though it has not always been plain sailing.

"You have to understand when you play for Hull City that you have to do certain things in the week. Every player has to understand what is their role when we don't have the ball.

"Against Spurs, his role was to drop back on to (Didier) Zokora or (Tom) Huddlestone, depending on who was playing. That was his responsibility and he did it.

"In the second half, he dropped in on the left side to help out Andy Dawson and he did that off his own back without me having to tell him. That is pleasing.

"It was why I brought Peter Halmosi on and went 4-5-1 for the closing stages. Andy (Dawson) was starting to get picked off and we needed to block that route off."

Geovanni's exquisite winner yesterday will, just like his spectacular goal at the Emirates, be a leading contender for goal of the season.

Brown added: "Geo is a player with an 'out of the box' mentality. There are a lot in the English game who think 'in the box' and that is why many (teams) go with 4-4-2 formations But Geo does think outside the box."

Hull's scintillating start to the season has confounded all the pundits who from the moment the club had won promotion via the play-offs were predicting a tough baptism of fire in the top flight.

Some even went as far as to say Hull would fail to match even the pathetic 11 points earned by Derby County last season.

Brown has taken great delight in proving the critics wrong, but is quick to stress that there is still a long way to go this term.

He said: "It is dreamland. But I have to get the players' minds back on the West Ham game because reality is kicking in.

"I honestly do not look at the league tables. Maybe I will now you have told me we are third.

"It is pleasing to have had a good start, but I have to stress we are only seven games into a 38-game campaign."

On yesterday's game, Brown added: "Tottenham had 23 or 24 attempts on goal, but I think you will find all the best chances fell to Hull City.

"Dean Marney hit the post, Geovanni missed a great chance before he scored and Marlon King was one-on-one with their goalkeeper.

"I love good defending and we defended manfully. We kept out discipline and our club captain (Ian Ashbee) was pulling all the strings.

"He is like my coach on the field. He has big players around him, but he has taken to it like a fish to water.

"I love 1-0 wins, as a defensive coach they are fantastic. And this was our first clean sheet in the Premier League, which is obviously pleasing.

"What pleases me the most, though, is how we have responded since losing 5-0 to Wigan."
