DONCASTER Rovers manager Sean O'Driscoll has completed his first signing of the summer – midfielder John Spicer from Burnley.

The former England Under-21 international penned a two-year deal with the Championship newcomers yesterday and will be a replacement for Paul Green, who quit to join Derby County.

Spicer, who started his career at Arsenal, has spent the last three years at Turf Moor, but previously played under O'Driscoll at Bournemouth.

"It's nice to come to a manager who knows you already and you know them and how they work, plus their strengths and my strengths," said Spicer. "I know that they like to play football and play the right way, which is the way that I like to play.

"Looking at the stadium and the facilities, I'm chuffed with the move," he added. "Hopefully, we can have a good two years together and a successful upcoming season in the Championship."

Now 24, Spicer has been used predominantly as a squad player by Burnley and will be looking to get his career back on track at the Keepmoat Stadium.

O'Driscoll's next target is Manchester City defender Matthew Mills who has expressed a desire to sign a permanent deal with Rovers following an impressive loan stay last season.
