"A move to the Premier League would be hard to turn down," he said. "It's flattering to have interest from top clubs but I'll just see what happens. I did know which clubs came in for me – they were good football clubs that I would be interested in speaking to – but I play for Barnsley and will do until told otherwise."
The Tykes travel to Bristol City today seeking to avoid a fourth consecutive league defeat. Only three points separates the club from the relegation zone and Davey is demanding a major improvement after the disappointment of the midweek home defeat by Ipswich Town.
Davey's bid for Coventry City striker Michael Mifsud, who can also play on the wing, appears to have failed.
Although the two clubs had agreed a fee in the region of £300,000, it is understood that Barnsley were unwilling to meet Mifsud's wage demands. Davey has also dismissed talk of a move for Oldham Athletic's unsettled striker Lee Hughes.
The Tykes signed Maltese international striker Daniel Bogdanovic last week, however, and still have other irons in the fire.
"Fans can rest assured we are chasing quality players," said assistant-manager Ryan Kidd. "We don't want to sign someone who, six months down the line, will not be doing the business for us. We want a player who can make us a better player for the long term."
Striker Kayode Odejayi is likely to be one of the players leaving Oakwell over the next few days with both Scunthorpe United and Rotherham United still keen on the Nigerian international.
Bristol City midfielder Marvin Elliott faces up to six weeks out with a torn groin muscle so former Barnsley and Doncaster Rovers winger Michael McIndoe should be his replacement. Left-back Jamie McAllister starts a one-match ban after the game.
