The composer of the Enigma variations and Pomp and Circumstances had a long friendship and correspondence with Dr Charles Buck, who kept a surgery in Market Place, home now to the Natwest Bank.
Elgar grew fond of the Dales and could often be seen strolling over the Giggleswick scars, no doubt breathing deeply the invigorating air and gaining fresh inspiration.
